"Had a lovely hike with João to get a different side of life in Portgual, and escape from the cities for a while. Pick up was smooth, and we enjoyed a quick drive out to the town/rural area he lives in. I was the only one that booked for that day, which he let me know ahead of time (I really appreciated this as a solo-female traveller!). Once we arrived we had a lovely hike through the woods along a small river, which has many small waterfalls, and João and I spoke about life in rural Portugal, the nature around us, and whatever came up. He was very polite, spoke English well, and overall was a very amicable hike partner! Depending on your skill level, and interest, there are a few different detours he can take to make your hike more enjoyable. The route we took (I believe the most challenging) was still very doable for someone of modest fitness, without being a simple stroll through the woods. The roman ruins site gives a great aerial view of the surrounding area. A great experience!”
